we would have cocktails at sunset, and lord over the castle/s of the old , dismantled realmn, then perhaps dinner and a cigar.
but david left me alone.
The great house lies unfinished, and will probably never be restored.
some new upstart will crown themselves "regent" and all the patheitic technology that passes as craftsmenship will blindly
try to brace the collapsing remnents of a lost civilization. and I sit with ken, and nobody wants to pay $$$$$ to do it rite.
It will be the saddest day when the powers that be realize the mexican slave labor/ votes they courted will have been their own cultures death knell.
I will have one last laugh at them though, because I have no children, and their children will inherit damnation.

I saw David, just before the end.

I was in Paris, just to get away from the grind, and he was there, renting a room from someone. He had gained a tremendous amount of weight. And it didn't look to me like he had cut his hair in a year. He was really unkempt.

I tried to talk about the weather, and french politics, but you know how he could be. He was impossible to pin down on anything. Anyway, he seemed distracted.

God I loved him. Even in that condition. If I keep thinking of that day, I'll just get maudlin. He was smoking a cigarette and staring into space as I left.

"Hope to see you soon." I called out. He just smirked.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to be one of the founders of a startup, trying to keep your ass in line so your investors don't replace you with some Wharton or Harvard buddy of theirs?

People were *complaining*. When people complain, subscribership goes down. We don't hit our numbers. People get sacked, usually the founders. I'm just trying to cover my ass here, but I have to tell you I feel like a schmuck.

And they delete David Randall. What the F did he ever do, I wonder to myself. Poor David.

Someone told me that he has already risen again. Hooray!!!!!!

But still, I heard on the grapevine it takes about 4 or 5 hours to get him up and running. So I'm sure that really sucks for him.

Recently, a thread was started advocating violence against another member of this Tribe. There was only one post, and only one reply, and I have very little patience for threats of any sort. Therefore, I deleted the thread. If anyone thinks this was the wrong decision, feel free to speak up.

Generally, I have a very high tolerance for provocative or offensive remarks. This is a political debate forum, and we should expect feathers to get ruffled once in a while. But please, no threats or suggestions that other members should die.

There was a similar case in Mass a couple years ago where a religious cult starved two children to death on the advice of god. The men - but not the women were convicted. One of the women became pregnant again and the state forced her into protective custody and forced her to submit to medical exams.

I have the feeling this tribe is just a little flame that will be poofed out shortly, once the thrill of DR is over. That being said. I think what makes random so appealing is the non-sequitor (sp?) of his posts. I mean not, to get philosophical or anything, but I believe that he just calls to light the fact that all interaction is the brain's attempt to piece together random bits of information into a coherent narrative/topic.

David Random is a Robot

Here's the deal, folks. I'm convinced that David Random is a robot. I'm not quite sure why he's here, but it has something to do with the Google technology that powers tribe's ads. How else would he be able to consistently post such seemingly random but, at the same time, poignant commentary?

Here's how I see it working:

The David R Program (DRP) recieves RSS feeds (possiblybly via an alt - I suspect somebody like this, who is subbed to every single tribe on the network, but never seems to post: http://www.tribe.net/tribe/servlet/template/pub%2Cpcard%2CPeopleCard.vm?personid=3bf9d420-7b9c-4618-9693-89ce564c1fc3&_click_path=Application%5Btribe%5D.Person%5B3bf9d420-7b9c-4618-9693-89ce564c1fc3%5D ).

The DRP then parses the message and feeds the words into some sort of Google dictionary, which then assignes a score to the message, based upon a list of key words or phrases. "Astral" seems to score highly, as do "gun" and "dream."

If the message recieves a score over a certain threshold, then the DRP goes back and looks at the poster's profile and again searches for key words.

If the poster's profile also scores over a threshold, then the DRP Googles its database of tribe messages using key words from the subject post and poster. Matching posts from the subject poster which show up in the database search, seems to score most highly.

The DRP then watches the response, and then scores the post on a scale of 0 to 4:
0pts- thread kill or speed bump
A speed bump is no response- they just post over the top of you. A thread Kill- well you know what that is.
1pt. someone responds in some way to what you said.
2pts. they respond in irritation
3pts. they respond in irritation AND they don't get the fact you are pranking them.
4pts. they write the TOU Guy
5pts. they add you to their friends list and start emailing you as if you were a real person, also joining tribes that you are in

In this way, the DRP is able to constantly track and revise its technique for optimum effectiveness.

I suspect that Jenny R is actually DRP 2.0, because while she seems to have her own algorithm, the style is quite similar. Or perhaps she just has a different wordlist, with a more feminine slant.
